An AI-powered
science
lab.

A tool that helps students do what scientists do.

Lab-on-a-Book turns reading into an experiment. Work through the chapters at your own pace — and whenever a question comes up, Lab-on-a-Bot is right here to help you think it through.

01 Read

A Chapter

Each chapter builds one idea at a time, with hands-on experiments you do yourself — no fancy lab required.

02 Ask

Anything

Stuck on a concept? Lab-on-a-Bot knows the whole book and explains it your way — like a patient tutor.

03 Private

⚙️ Setup

Choose how you'd like to connect Lab-on-a-Bot.

  1. Install Ollama. Download it from ollama.com, open it, and leave it running.
  2. Get the model. Open a terminal and run: ollama pull llama3.1:8b
This is a ~5 GB download and works best on a laptop with about 16 GB of RAM. It downloads once and runs offline after that.
For the photo-analysis feature, also run (optional, ~5 GB): ollama pull llama3.2-vision
  3. Allow this page to connect. Run the line for your computer, then quit and reopen Ollama:
    Show the command

    Mac: launchctl setenv OLLAMA_ORIGINS "*"

    Windows: setx OLLAMA_ORIGINS "*"

Linux: run Ollama with OLLAMA_ORIGINS=* ollama serve

(Skip this step if you opened this page from a localhost address.)

Only the experiment chapter and question type are shared — never your words or identity. This is off by default.
